MeixelJill Brenner Meixel

Jill Brenner Meixel concentrates her practice in the fields of complex business litigation, intellectual property litigation, white collar criminal defense, and employment litigation. In Ms. Meixel’s business litigation practice, she represents publicly traded corporations, closely held corporations and individuals in disputes involving breach of contract and business torts, including claims of breach of fiduciary duty, fraud and violations of the Massachusetts Consumer Protection Act. Her white collar practice includes the defense of individuals in investigations and prosecutions by the United States Attorney’s Office involving alleged health care fraud and violations of United States immigration and tax laws. Ms. Meixel’s employment law practice includes the representation of corporations, employees and former employees in matters implicating the Massachusetts Wage and Hour laws, alleged breaches of employment contracts, and compliance matters.

A representative sampling of her recent work includes:

  • Won a $27 million dollar jury verdict as second chair in a trial against a private air charter company where the charter company failed to provide adequate safeguards to prevent the international child abduction of the client’s two children. See Streeter v. Executive Jet Mgmt., 2005 WL 4357633 (Conn. Super. Ct. Nov. 10, 2005) (affirming damages award).
  • Secured summary judgment for individual in action against his former employer for violations of the Massachusetts Wage and Hour laws and failure to pay deferred compensation.
  • Defeated summary judgment in action involving breach of contract, termination of employment in violation of public policy, fraud and defamation brought by individual against former employer.
  • Representing wireless paging company in state court proceedings against former customer involving claims for alleged breach of contract and violations of the Massachusetts Consumer Protection Act.
  • Represented client in government prosecution of alleged violation of immigration laws relating to sponsorship of H-1B visa applications.
  • Represented large telecommunications company in federal court action brought against it by registered investment advisor for fraud and breach of contract.
  • Represented habeas petitioner in federal court and First Circuit proceedings alleging violation of due process rights due to prosecutorial misconduct in a state court grand jury proceeding.
  • Obtained judgment as a matter of law and reversal of a $17.2 million jury verdict on behalf of laser vision device manufacturer in patent infringement action.
  • Represented a major pharmaceutical company in civil and criminal actions relating to alleged violations of anti-kickback laws.

Ms. Meixel received an A.B. in Government from Harvard University, cum laude, and a J.D. from Northeastern University School of Law. During law school, she interned in the Drug Task Force Unit at the United States Attorney's Office in Massachusetts, and worked as a judicial intern to the Hon. Judge Joseph L. Tauro, U.S. District Court, District of Massachusetts.

From 2001 to 2003, she was a litigation associate at Testa, Hurwitz & Thibeault, LLP in Boston, Massachusetts, where she concentrated her practice in the areas of business litigation, intellectual property litigation and white collar criminal defense matters. During that time, she provided pro bono legal assistance to the New England Innocence Project, which aims to exonerate wrongfully convicted inmates based on the use of DNA technology.

Ms. Meixel is admitted to practice in Massachusetts, the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts, the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. She is a member of the Boston and Women’s Bar Associations.

She has co-authored “Targeting Terror Dollars: Some Lessons From the Drug War,” published in Andrews Publications' White-Collar Crime Reporter, Vol. 15, No. 12, December 2001 and co-authored “A Practical Guide to Defining the Heartland for Downward Departure Purposes,” published in the Boston Bar Association's Criminal Law Section Newsletter, January 2002.

Ms. Meixel has been named three times as a Super Lawyer Rising Star in Boston Magazine.

Prior to becoming a lawyer, Ms. Meixel traveled internationally competing in junior, collegiate and professional tennis tournaments, and was a member of a national championship college tennis team.
