White Collar Defense and SEC Enforcement

Our Commitment. Helping clients navigate the troubling waters of government investigations and enforcement is a key part of our practice. Nothing carries greater personal, professional, and financial risks than becoming involved in a government investigation or enforcement action. Never is expert, responsive, attentive counsel more important than when an individual or business faces the threat of government action.

We work hard to develop and execute the strategy that offers the best possible protection for each client. In every matter, we master the facts and legal principles at issue and advocate zealously and responsibly on our clients’ behalf at every turn. Our principal strategy is to take every step possible to stop any criminal or administrative charges from being brought in the first instance, to avoid the injury associated with the mere public disclosure of the charges. We consistently conference with law enforcement and attempt to persuade them with written and oral legal presentations that they cannot win and charges should not be brought. If trial proves inevitable, we bring to bear our decades of experience trying criminal and administrative charges. Again, we fight to win.

We understand that our clients in crisis look to us for skillful protection, personal understanding, responsive attention, and candid advice. We strive to deliver all four of these core values in every matter.

Our Team. Our white collar defense and SEC enforcement team includes a former federal prosecutor, a former public defender and other accomplished veterans in the defense of criminal prosecutions and SEC enforcement actions. Together, we have represented clients in virtually every major law enforcement and government investigation in Boston in the securities, healthcare, and public works construction fields over the course of the last decade.

Our Clients. Primarily, we represent individual witnesses, subjects, and targets in government and internal investigations. We often represent Board members and senior corporate officers and other employees working for public and private companies in a wide range of industries nationwide. In addition to our representation of individuals, we also represent companies, institutions and other entities in connection with both internal investigations of alleged or suspected wrongdoing, and government investigations.

Our Work. In recent years, our lawyers have represented clients involved in cases concerning complicated allegations of accounting fraud, improper revenue recognition, stock options backdating, mutual fund market timing, late trading, pharmaceutical sales and marketing practices, and Medicare billing and reimbursement, just to name a few. We also have represented clients in recent controversies involving major construction projects in Boston.
